This project brought together those affected by the 1994 genocide and its aftermath: survivors, ex-prisoners, ex-combatants and young people, to build trust between them.
Rwanda is battling to emerge from the shadow of its recent history, with mistrust and disunity making it difficult for people to live together. We believe that when people are able to talk and share experiences, they are more likely to resolve their differences peacefully.
Our innovative approach had three main elements: trauma counselling and education; creating safe spaces for the different groups to talk; and supporting economic initiatives, such as microfinance, enabling people to work together to alleviate poverty.
